Joseph Marie Jacquard (1752-1834) was the French inventor of the jacquard loom. He was born in Lyon, France on July 7, 1752. In 1790, Jacquard first planned his apparatus for weaving complex patterns ,but did not build his device until 1801. In that year , he exhibited in Paris after final enhancements borrowed to a large extent from Jacques de Vaucanson's loom of 1745. By 1812 there were 11,000 jacquard looms operating in France. Since then and with the technical and electronic revolutions in textile industry over the years, fully automated looms are running now.
